Movies, YouTube, Podcasts, and more!

There are 742 words in this article, and it will probably take you less than 4 minutes to read it.

This article was published 2026-08-09 00:00:00 -0400, which makes this post and me old when I published it.

Movies

  1. Fiume o Morte! (2025)

    • A beautiful and elaborate reflective documentary about the Italian poet and proto-facist Gabriele D’Annunzio.

    • Wes Andersonian in some ways, meta with the recreation and lovely color, editing, and music/sound design.

  2. Secret Mall Apartment (2024)

    • I’ve been thinking more about the kind of artistic practice I want to have in my life, so this came to me at the perfect time since there’s a lot of reflection around life as art and art as life.
  3. By Design (2025)

    • An absurd, surreal, theatric feature about a woman who becomes a chair and realizes that people like her more that way.

    • A lot of feminist themes about being seen/heard, objectification, wealth/class, friendship, family, sex, and being desired.

    • Made me think of My Year of Rest and Relaxation in some ways strangely enough

  4. Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026)

    • A very good Spider-Man movie! Theaters were packed for this one on a Wednesday night which surprised me a bit but maybe cinema is back! MCU has lost its grip, but I think the more familiar titles will continue to hold.

YouTube

I got YouTube Premium recently, so it’s been on my TV way more than usual because no ads! I’ve actually really been enjoying it, and I’m not sure if there’s any way I can go back now.

Videos

[Show Us Your Bed, We Guess Who’s Been In It #38 — Interior Motives](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1cg0jPrBDw)

I have recently been obsessed with Interior Motives, and started out watching the episodes with guests that i knew beforehand but I like seeing everyone he has on! I don’t really guess along, but it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite shows on YouTube.

My NYC Studio is Tiny, So I Built a Second Floor — Colt Kirwan

I’ve been following Colt for awhile, and have loved to see his growth/transition into a maker/DIY creator.

We need to talk about the Hank Green situation — Colin and Samir

I respect and trust these guys for the most part for nuanced, informed takes on the creator economy and I think they started a good conversation to be had!

Best Rock Song of the 21st Century Bracket — HIVEMIND

I’ve been watching HIVEMIND for years at this point now, and they are definitely some of my favorite creators on the platform, especially for comedy. Such a good web show that I would highly recommend, but it can be hard to get into for new people, especially if you don’t get their sense of humor.

Podcasts

[Samin Nosrat Talks Life Post-‘Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat,’ Cooking Locally, and ‘The Bear’ Talk Easy — Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zl9qnRa67CM)

The questions felt lowkey invasive at times, but lots of interesting topics discussed!

Begin Proof - Daniel Litt — Bain Capital Ventures

I’ve been following the recent breakthroughs in AI math contributions, so it was nice to have an academic breakdown some of the hype but also seriously engage with how it might change the field.

[S4 Ep 35: “Boutique Hotels” w/ Cole Escola StraightioLab — StraightioLab](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZWXpdMtWOk)
  • I love Straightiolab, but when they have their friends on the chemistry is just always off the charts

TikTok

I of course watched way more TikToks this week, but these are the ones that made it out of the TikTok app into my bookmark app, Raindrop.

About Endlessness (2019): Review

A reflection on human life in all its beauty and cruelty, its splendor and banality, guided by a Scheherazade-esque narrator. Inconsequential moments have the same significance as historical events. Simultaneously an ode and a lament, presents a kaleidoscope of all that is eternally human, an infinite story of the vulnerability of existence.
