A promising musical debut that shows the power of the internet on Gen Alpha artistry.

North West, daughter to Kanye West, at just 12-years old has released her first ever EP, self-produced titled N0rth4ever.

To me it reads like hyper trap kawaii metal, where we have the trap metal of early Scarlxrd or ZillaKami mixed with the kawaii metal as popularized by BABYMETAL. It also reminds me a bit of Yameii Online, even if she isn’t using a vocaloid for the singing.

I have to imagine that she is using the internet to find her references and influences in part because she’s pulling nostalgic samples from times that she wasn’t alive for. Monster by Meg and Dia for instance is eight years older than her. It makes me wonder how she discovered all these things and if she is pulling any hyperpop influences as it is something that has been popular on the internet for awhile.

While she is using autotune, it still very much sounds like a 12 year old which isn’t necessarily bad because that literally is the case, but I do find it interesting that some things are just unable to be hidden.

Are the lyrics meaningful? Well not really, but that’s not really the point. At its best, her production feels like a collage of her interests which shows immense artistry in my opinion. I think that collaborating with other artists or producing for other people will truly allow her to develop and shine in the coming years.

I give it four stars.
